An important consideration for those who author designs, whether they are artistic or ornamental pieces, ergonomic designs, regular engineering designs, or even fashion items such as clothing or packaging is to protect their work from unauthorised reproduction. Applying for a registered design will secure rights in the look of the design and form a barrier to imitation.

For authors of copyright works, copyright for the main part comes into existence when the work is recorded in some form be it in writing, as an image or sound etc. Recording the work rather than registration is thus necessary to secure protection against copying. For some countries, for example the US, it may be worthwhile registering copyright.

TOMKINS can help with all relevant aspects of copyright and design and will assist in securing registration and protecting such IP in all fields of activity.
